The 7 Stages from Fear to Faith
The story of Elijah in 1 Kings 19 shows us that even people who have experienced great victories with God can still experience fear, exhaustion, and discouragement.
In 1 Kings 18, Elijah experienced one of the greatest victories of his life. He confronted the prophets of Baal, called on God, and watched fire fall from heaven. Yet immediately after that victory, Jezebel threatened his life, and Elijah became afraid and ran.
Elijah’s journey in 1 Kings 19 takes him through seven important stages:
Fear → Overwhelm → Renewal → Restore → Encounter → Stillness → Trust
Through each stage, God shows Elijah that his situation is not the end of his story.
God meets Elijah when he is afraid.
God gives him rest when he is overwhelmed.
God renews his strength.
God restores him.
God encounters him in the cave.
God speaks to him through stillness.
And finally, God teaches him to trust again.
This sermon reminds us that running doesn’t mean we have failed. Sometimes we run because we are tired, afraid, overwhelmed, or discouraged. But just as God pursued Elijah, God can meet us wherever we are and lead us from fear back to faith.
You may be running because of fear, but God can use the journey to bring you back to faith.
Don’t run away from God.
Run back to God.
RUN FORREST, RUN!
